Computer use INSIDE Claude Code (This changes EVERYTHING)
Video summary
Companion notes
Computer use is now an MCP module inside Claude Code, shipped the same day the demo post hit 9 million views.
What actually dropped
The new feature exposes Anthropic's computer-use capability as an installable MCP plugin. From a Claude Code session you can now drive a full desktop — opening apps, clicking, typing — instead of being limited to file and code edits. The creator frames it as Claude Code moving past its software-engineering roots: "if you have Claude Code working, you can access files and now you can access your entire computer."
Platform reality check
The team tested on Mac and called Windows support "doesn't work super well." They run a Windows streaming rig and explicitly couldn't demo the full flow on it — which is why the full hands-on test is still pending. If you're on Windows, treat this as a read-the-release-notes release, not a usable one.
The combo stack the creator recommends
The current meta is two agents, not one: - Hermes (with a Chinese model behind it) for "daily work done that's repetitive and that's very well cleaned out and thought out already" — about $10/month. - Claude Code Max plan for "heavy lifting."
You can now call Hermes from inside Claude Code via the newest Hermes MCP build, so the fallback is in-process rather than a tab switch. The creator estimates 80% of what they were doing on Open Code / Hermes can migrate to Claude Code with computer use.
Concrete use cases named
- Piping edits through Descript for video.
- Driving Photoshop for thumbnail work.
- Automating any app that has no native MCP — the whole point of the release.
What to watch
The Claude Code team is shipping "every single day," and Boris Cherny says he "hasn't actually coded something since November" — a hint they may be using an internal model. Max plan rate limits are still being investigated after a Reddit backlash, so don't blow your whole budget on a single run.
Bottom line
"If you have a lot of money, just do a full migration to Claude Code. If you don't have that much money, well, Hermes plus Claude Code is probably your best combo right now."
