Grok 4.5 + Hermes Agent = INSANE Research Combo
Video summary
Companion notes
Grok 4.5 in Hermes Agent is the fastest, cheapest X-research brain — but not a general-purpose writer.
Speed and cost vs. writing quality
Creator's own benchmark on a broad "what's trending in AI over the past 24 hours" prompt through Hermes' X search tool: ~33 seconds for the first sweep, ~36 seconds for the follow-up MuseSpark/Muse image query. The same tool with other frontier models routinely takes one to two minutes — Grok 4.5 cuts it by more than half. He's also only burned 5% of the X Premium Plus weekly Super Grock limit after extensive research sessions, versus being charged per request on the news-portal subscription tier. For X scraping, news aggregation, and watchlist fetches, that combination wins.
Why it wins at X specifically
Grok 4.5 was trained on X, so it understands "quote tweet dramas," "signals versus engagement bait," slang, and tighter handles/dates on its first query. Other models capture irrelevant tweets — "life updates, memes, jokes, all of that" — unless you prompt very carefully, and even then filtering isn't perfect. Grok's "better first queries" and tighter date handles make it the orchestrator of choice for an agent loop that scrapes AI news.
Where it loses
For coding, "much guidance is needed… to produce an output that you really like." For "a very nice, well-written report, comprehensive, deep research," the creator names GPT-5.5, Opus 4.8, and "not to mention Fable 5" as clearly ahead.
Four ways to wire it into Hermes
1. News portal subscription — per-request billing against your Hermes usage plan. 2. X Premium Plus or Super Grock — included in the weekly quota, OOTH auth via X account (creator's pick). 3. xAI API key. 4. OpenRouter key.
The X search tool itself works with any configured provider; Grok 4.5 is just the best filter on top of it.
Concrete swap for an existing pipeline
The creator currently runs an AI-news scraper agent whose orchestrator defaults to MiniMax-M3 but is being routed via override to MiniMax-Anthropic. He plans to replace that brain with Grok 4.5 and will update progress in a follow-up.
