OpenClaw 3.24 Update is INSANE!
Video summary
Companion notes
OpenClaw 3.24 ships the btw side-question command, OpenAI web UI integration, and named Discord threads — but the team still flags skill duplication as their biggest operational risk.
OpenAI integration is the headline, not the reason to upgrade
The marquee feature of the 3.24 update is deeper OpenAI platform web UI integration, including sub-agent conversation. Michael frames it as OpenAI "funneling those resources from Sora to GBT and Codeex" to catch Claude Code after the Sora cut. He doesn't use OpenAI models himself but admits the integration is directionally sensible. Treat it as a sign of OpenAI's priorities, not a feature that changes daily workflows.
Two quality-of-life wins worth your time
The btw command works across Telegram, WhatsApp, and the TUI — it lets you ask a side question without derailing the main task. Ron calls it "super useful if you're debugging something midway" because auxiliary questions no longer pollute the original prompt. The second win is sl tool, which surfaces the active tools inside a session. It solved a real bug on the Boxmining desk where an image generator and a thumbnail generator were firing on the wrong skill.
Discord threads and platform fixes
Discord now supports named threads, which matters if you run a multi-purpose bot. The team has a dedicated neo claw thread per workflow and previously left them untitled. Also in 3.24: Telegram and WhatsApp fixes, photo upload reliability, and Slack web search tweaks.
The elephant: Claude Code is closing in
Both hosts agree Claude Code is "the go-to now for most people" and is encroaching via Telegram connectivity and computer/file management. But OpenClaw still wins on proactive, assistant-style behavior — it surfaces new uploads and competitor releases on its own. Michael's upcoming deep-dive will cover how overlapping, duplicated skills are the main reason OpenClaw setups degrade, and the team spent the previous day "shaking" theirs back to a working state.
Skills panel reminder
The in-dashboard skill search from the prior 3.13 update is still there. Michael still manually inspects community-built skills before installing, since "short term I still manually inspect the skills first."
