Hermes Agent Update v0.10 is POWERFUL! (Tool Gateway Release)
Video summary
Companion notes
Hermes Agent v0.10 ships a $10/month Tool Gateway that bundles web search, image generation, TTS, and browser automation into one login — and you can still bring your own model keys.
What landed in 0.10
The headline feature is the News Portal Tool Gateway released alongside Hermes Agent v0.10.0. A single $10/month basic plan unlocks four tools that previously required separate API keys: web search (Firecrawl), image generation, text-to-speech, and browser automation. The creator notes this replaces paid Brave Search API keys and standalone browser-use/image-gen subscriptions, calling Firecrawl "insanely strong."
Bring your own model, skip the per-token trap
You can subscribe to News Portal for the tool gateway and still route the LLM itself through your own provider. In the demo the host runs GLM 5.1 through his coding plan, meaning the $10 only buys the tools — the model traffic stays on his flat-rate coding plan instead of News Portal's metered billing. His rule: "Pay no more than $10" for the base, and always use package plans over per-use pricing to avoid "burn[ing] through $100 or something on News Portal."
Setup gotcha: model gets re-routed to Portal
After enabling the tool gateway, the agent sometimes defaults back to News Portal's hosted models and errors out. Fix: open the model menu and re-select your own provider (e.g. GLM 5.1). If that fails, edit ~/.hermes/config.yaml and manually change the provider field back to your old provider — the config often gets overwritten to newsresearch after connecting the portal.
Core infrastructure cleanup
The release also includes a major pass on "agent core infrastructure, CLI tooling, and tool reliability" to fix wrong-tool calls and the roughly every-6-to-9-hour behavior glitches users have been hitting. The team shipped 180 commits in 2 days, which the host flags as unusually fast.
Security note
The host runs Hermes on a cheap VPS rather than a Mac mini, citing community concerns about local security exposure. His stance: use the tools, just don't hand the agent full system access. Opus 4.7 also dropped the same day — rated "meh meh," and the host is sticking with GPT for now.
