Companion notes

OpenClaw 5.2 lands with npm-first plugins, Grok 4.3, and a hard 50/50 hit rate on real installs.

Verdict: plugin-heavy setups win, light installs may break

Ron called the rollout 50/50 — some users report it's worse than the last patch, while others (especially those running the force plugin install) say it's running pretty smoothly. One team member's OpenClaw agent went offline after 5.2 purely because of missing packages inherited from the previous update. If you're not on a plugin heavy or multi-channel config, expect breakage.

Boot time and memory — the real win

The headline change is startup latency. Profile overlays used to fire during secrets pre-flight on boot; in 5.2 they're skipped entirely during that phase. Runtime plugin preloads are now scoped to only what you're actually using instead of every discoverable plugin. On a $2–$3/month, 2GB VPS (the Boxmining default), this is noticeable. The plugin system is also npm first — external plugins are moving out of core, making the update loop a little bit more predictable.

Channels: Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google Meet

  • Discord: active buttons, select menus, and modals now survive gateway restarts — the handler used to ghost after a cycle. Typing indicators stay alive across 30 second tool chains.
  • WhatsApp: now supports explicit channel and newsletter targets with @newsletter syntax.
  • Telegram: better topic command routing inside forum topics; native slash commands in inbound groups dispatch correctly.
  • Google Meet: the add-on from two patches ago now lets you set access type and entry point access on API-created rooms (knock vs direct link), plus a new googlemeet active-conference command to tear down orphan rooms.

Catalog and web UI

Grok 4.3 is now selectable from the model provider list. The WebSocket layer is more resilient for long running dashboard sessions, slash-command failures now return a meaningful message instead of a generic toast, and the iOS PWA viewport respects safe area insets so the UI no longer clips behind the dynamic island.

Claw Sweeper 0.2 — auto-maintenance bot

Peter Steinberger shipped Claw Sweeper 0.2 (original April 24). It classifies curated GitHub issues/PRs via a Codex worker and auto-fixes them. If you have Claw Sweeper event hooks configured, it runs as a maintenance agent in the background on every new PR — but Ron couldn't get his hooks firing and asked viewers for help.

Post-update checklist

Run openclaw update to pull 5.2, then immediately openclaw doctor fix gateway restart force to replace the missing package on your install.
