Hermes Agent Update v0.17 is HUGE! (Reach Release)

Hermes Agent v0.17 ships background sub-agents, native iMessage, and WhatsApp Business Cloud support.

The three pillars: reach, async, automation

The v0.17 "reach release" lands on three legs. Reach pushes Hermes out of the TUI into iMessage (via Photon Spectrum, no Mac relay needed), WhatsApp Business Cloud API, SimpleX, and the RAFT agent network — alongside the existing Telegram, Slack, and Discord channels. The creator is blunt: TUI still delivers full power because tokens pass more directly to the LLM, and WhatsApp requires a business meta account (personal numbers won't work).

Background sub-agents are the real headline

Trigger them with delegate task background=true in your TUI. Hermes spins up sub-agents for long jobs — multi-model evals, research, document crawls — while the main conversation stays responsive and queued prompts keep streaming. The creator flags this as the v0.17 star and recommends explicitly asking Hermes about background sub-agents for any task with more than three scopes before handing it off.

Image editing, blueprints, atomic memory

image_generate now supports image-to-image editing — recolor, restyle, background removal — but the creator's own test on the News Portal basic plan was "a little bit disappointing" and they don't expect one-shot quality unless you bring your own GPT image API key. Automation blueprints convert natural-language recurring tasks into scheduled jobs without manual cron. The memory API gains atomic batch add/update/delete operations, making long-lived agent memory less fragile.

Desktop, models, and how to update

The desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) gets rebindable shortcuts, native OS notifications, a live sub-agent monitor, and a redesigned skills hub with security scans plus a profile builder. New model wiring includes GLM 5.2 at a 1M token context window, Laguna M1, NeMo-Tron 3 Ultra, and Grok Composer 2.5. Fable 5 is listed but still suspended. Update with hermes update.
